The New Specialist

Since this my first post, I thought I would write about a topic that lots of people I know constantly talks about – the ever-changing Chameleon, the multidisciplinary, the new specialist, the Da Vinci of today. Those are but a few titles used to label people with multiple talents. Those talents appear/evolve throughout different circumstances.

There is some stigma going around about people that have a variety of talents, they are called ‘Jack-of-all-trades’. The reality is Jack-of-all-trades are the masters of nothing – someone who knows a little about everything, but not really enough to be considered a master in a specific trade/service. The New Specialist however is someone who is a passionate seeker, visionary adventurer and insatiably curious. “This new breed – is able to literally walk between worlds, masters of multi-universes in craftsmanship, able to pull from one craft or skill and temper another at will to answer the call or solve the unsolvable at any given time. They are tapped in, creators, initiators, leaders and followers, melding, merging, melting, immersing, birthing the evolutionary-revolutionary answer to any challenge whether great or small.

They are fearless and willing to court failure as the birthplace of discovery. They are disciples, children of the greatest master inventor-artist-creator-engineer-architect who ever lived – the original New Specialist Leonardo Da Vinci.

From Da Vinci’s Demons TV show

Leonardo Da Vinci was the most extraordinary example of a man who believed nothing was beyond him, who sought to explore the farthest reaches of his own curiosity without limits, who sought to know everything and thus, became everything. He serves as a model for all of us creatives who have felt lost in hyphenation – director, designer, doctor, engineer, archeologist, dancer, photographer, writer, strategist, architect, singer, butcher, baker – laboring under misconceptions of irrelevancy or too easily dismissed as ‘a Jack-of-all-trades’.

We are the Chameleon, the New Specialist because we are, in the spirit of Da Vinci, and process far more than meets the eye. We are masters of many disciplines – each of us uniquely poised, empowered creatives of rich heritage, experience, skill and vision. The New Specialist brings a wealth of unseen opportunities to clients and the world, solving current challenges that are evident in our everyday world.

As the dawn breaks on this new day, we are the ones embracing our power and defining ourselves, rather than looking to the world to do it. Today, you have a choice: hanging-on to the past, or tap into the boundless opportunities of the New Specialist”. – Christiane Schull

“Credit goes to my dear friend Christiane Schull for help, support and for inspiring me to find the New Specialist within me”.
